RIVERSIDE
Edgar McGuire, a two-time Riverside City Councilman who was temporarily appointed to the board just months ago, has pulled out of the Sept. 8 special election.
McGuire’s withdrawal leaves three candidates chasing after a vacant seat on the board: Travis Riggan, President of the Riverside Area Community Club and a lead organizer for Trek Fest; Levi Schnoebelen, a member of the city’s Board of Adjustment; and Nickie Nguyen, who was one of five applicants for the seat during an appointment process.
“After giving it a lot of thought, I’ve decided to step back from the upcoming election and end my campaign,” McGuire told The News. “I appreciate everyone who has supported me, encouraged me and taken the time to talk with me throughout this process. Riverside will always matter to me, and if the community needs me again, I’ll be there.”
McGuire endorsed Riggan, who did not apply for the seat when it first came up earlier this year following the resignation of Chris Grinstead. The two met during door-to-door campaigning.
“Travis has been involved in the community for years,” McGuire said, “and I believe he genuinely cares about Riverside. I’m comfortable stepping aside, and when Election Day comes, I will personally be casting my vote for Travis Riggan.”
The winner of the election will serve through the end of 2029.
The election will be held 7 a.m. through 8 p.m. Sept. 8 at Riverside City Hall on Greene Street.
