Work Session
Monday – April 24, 2023
5:00 p.m. – Highland Board Room

The work session was called to order at 5:03 p.m. by President Nate Robinson.
Josh Thomann, Rachel Longbine, Monica Jepson, Dan Ruth, Mike Golden and Nate Robinson were present. Melissa Murphy was absent. Also present were Ken Crawford, Superintendent, Angela Hazelett, Secondary Principal, Jane O’Leary, Elementary Principal and Sue Rich, Board Secretary.
Ruth made a motion to approve the agenda. Seconded by Jepson.
Motion carried 6-0
Cory Quail gave an update on the football equipment. New shoulder pads were purchased for all grade levels last year so we are in good shape with those. This year he would like to get the jr high helmets upgraded and then start working on the high school helmets. He would like to purchase 30 helmets at a cost of approximately $7,500 but it could be less than that. He has several fundraisers planned and would like to get the football account to be self-sustaining but is asking for help from the board with this purchase of helmets. Quail stated this is a safety issue more than anything and would take whatever the board is willing to give towards the purchase of the helmets.
Superintendent Report:
Facilities Committee Update - Some members of the facilities committee as well as Mr Crawford, Tyler Thomann and representatives from OPN Architects visited 3 schools (West Branch, Alburnett and Monticello) to look over some of their new facilities and upgrades. Dan Ruth appreciated the opportunity to attend and liked seeing all the natural light and open working spaces in the buildings. Another visit to Wilton and Lisbon is being looked into as well.
Good Conduct Update - The Good Conduct Policy has been looked over at length and many changes are being made to it. Several groups spent time looking this over including the SIAC committee, the administrative team, coaches, sponsors and students. The board spent time going over it tonight as well and this will be added to the student handbook to be approved at the June board meeting.
Golden made a motion to adjourn. Seconded by Longbine. Motion carried 6-0.
The work session adjourned at 6:52 p.m.
