A cool day, a slight breeze and plenty of cloud cover provided perfect running conditions on Thursday as Highland competed at the Steve Roth relays in Washington.
The afternoon was highlighted by three top-five relay finishes, including a first-place finish in the distance medley, a third-place finish in the 4x800m, and a fifth-place finish in the 4x100m.
Freshman Noah Hartzler and sophomore Caleb Wheeler were each members of both the distance medley and 4x800m relay teams, including Hartzler competing as the first leg of the 4x800 and the anchor of the medley.
Hartzler described what his experience of running with the relay teams has been like in his freshman season, “It’s been really fun. They support me, I couldn’t ask for a better team, these guys have been really good teammates.”
Other top finishers for Highland included Brody Beinhart’s fifth-place finish in the 200m, Brock Nebergall’s sixth-place finish in the 800m, Will Boileau’s ninth-place finish in the shot put, and Chase Robinson’s ninth-place finish in the 400m
Highland tied with Keota for 7th out of 12 teams in Class C (comprised of 1A and small 2A schools by IHSAA classifications) with 22 points. The class was won by Columbus, which over doubled every opponent with 177 points.
