Hosting the meet on their home course, Hillcrest Academy had a strong performance at the Southeast Iowa Superconference meet on Tuesday, as Marie Yoder finished 6th to lead all area girls while Troy Yoder came in 8th to lead all area boys.

Marie, a three-time state qualifier, finished with a time of 21:44.

“I’m really happy about my place and my time,” Marie said. “It’s always really fun to have meets here because of all our fans.”

Amelia Vigneron finished 67th for Hillcrest with a time of 33:52.

On the boys’ side, Troy, a freshman, finished mere moments behind Van Buren County senior Landry Loeffler with a time of 18:12.

“It felt great,” Yoder said. “I put in a lot of work over the summer and it felt really good to see the results reflect it.”

Not far behind was Hillcrest’s Calvin Meller, who came in 11th with a time of 18:37. Marie, Troy and Calvin each earned all conference honors for their top 15 finishes.

“It’s amazing,” Meller said of running with Troy, who he’s finished near in almost every meet the Ravens have run. “I think we can push each other to go to state, and I’d be really excited about that.

The Hillcrest boys finished 7th as a team. Other Raven point scorers included Jaxson Brokaw in 43rd, Danny Meyer in 63rd and Merle Cronquist in 68th.

Nebergall secures All-SEISC nod

Highland senior Brock Nebergall achieved one of his primary goals for his senior season as he became the first Highland boy of the decade to be named All-SEISC with his 9th-place finish at Hillcrest on Tuesday.

“It was my goal last year and I just missed it,” Nebergall said of finishing all-conference. “That was a tough, tough break for me last year. Just coming back this year and getting top 15, it was huge for me.”

Nebergall came in just behind Hillcrest’s Troy Yoder. He described what it’s like competing with familiar opponents like those at Hillcrest.

“They’re tough runners. They’re always going to go out there and give you their best, and that’s exactly what they did. They were feeling good today and they got me, give them all the credit.”

Grace Bombei led the Husky girls in 18th with a time of 23:14.

Hall finishes top 30

Lone Tree freshman Ruby Hall came in 30th to lead the Lions at the SEISC meet with a time of 24:38.

“I’ve always hated the Hillcrest course,” Hall said with a laugh. “There’s the huge steep hill at the end and it just feels like it takes forever.”

Carten Parrish led the Lion boys in 74th.
