Lone Tree volleyball hosted Highland for Senior Night on Tuesday, when the Huskies closed their regular season with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-17) sweep of the Lions.

Maiya Singbeil’s 7 kills led the way for Highland, just ahead of 6 kills apiece for Ava Sexton and Kamryn Fink. Singbeil also dominated at the service line, as she delivered 4 aces for the Huskies.

For Highland, the dominant win put them on the right track entering the postseason.

“We have to keep talking and we have to keep our energy up,” Highland head coach April Stumpf said. “Sometimes we go like a rollercoaster, where we’re going great, five straight points, and then we go flat  and the rollercoaster goes down. That’s what we’re working to avoid, and we avoided that tonight.”

The victory marked Highland’s tenth of the year, a six-win improvement from last year in the program’s first year under Stumpf.

“She gives us a lot of confidence,” senior Annika Henningsen said of Stumpf. “Se just has this look in her eye and this smile that shows she believes in us, and we also believe in her.”

The Huskies had been on a 7-match losing streak before the match against Lone Tree.

For Lone Tree, the match marked their 58th consecutive loss, a streak that was extended to 61 to close the season with a loss to Mt. Pleasant and two to Burlington-Notre Dame.

“We’ve been put through so much as a team,” senior Olivia Magruder said following the Highland match. “We’ve had four different coaches, one each year of my high school career… It’s really hard, and it’s unfortunate, but we’ve all come to the conclusion that we can’t do anything about it, so we just work together and try our best.”
