Hillcrest volleyball readies for conference tournament

Posted

The Hillcrest Volleyball team is preparing for Thursday’s conference tournament, when the Ravens will travel to Winfield-Mt. Union to take on Burlington Notre Dame, Danville and the hosting Wolves.

Entering pool play on a five-game skid according to Bound (two games from the Ravens’ weekend tournament at Cardinal were not entered as of Tuesday morning), the Ravens will look to right the ship on Thursday.

They’ll open the tournament against Notre Dame. The Nikes have leaned heavily on their defense to win long rallies and overcome low offensive efficiency this season. Junior libero Emma Elmore leads the team with 175 digs.

Danville enters the tournament on a hot stretch, having won three of its last four games. The Bears lean heavily on Alivia Bauer, one of the best outsides in the conference and the player to watch out of Hillcrest’s pool. Bauer triples all of her teammates with 165 kills on the year. Despite receiving twice as many sets as any other Bear, Bauer has maintained a .251 hitting percentage.

Hillcrest and host W-MU have already squared off once this year, a 2-0 bout that went in favor of the Wolves. Junior Kynlee Buffington averaged five kills per set in the first matchup and will be a key focus of the Ravens on Thursday.

First serve for all round one matches is scheduled for 5 p.m.
