LONE TREE
Stop time had arrived for the Lone Tree Lions.
After Kaden Hall of English Valleys stole the ball and sprinted down the court for a layup and his 29th and 30th points of the night with 1:07 left in Monday night’s game, the Lions slammed the door.
English Valleys never scored again.
Free throws by Adam Knock, Drew Gaulley and Cade Patterson in the final minute secured a 50-46 Lone Tree victory. A three-game losing streak was over and the Lions proudly danced off the court.
“It felt great,” said Patterson, who led the Lions with 11 points. “We knew Hall, he’d be good tonight. We knew we had to stop him, but we came up when it mattered the most and that’s all we can really say.”
Hall, a senior, is the second-leading scorer in all of Class 1A. He finished with a game-high 30 points and team-high 9 rebounds.
‘Really good,” Lone Tree senior Cade Shield said of the win. “Hopefully we can win our next two, go into the playoffs looking good.”
Lone Tree (6-15) hosts Pekin in its regular-season finale Tuesday, then hosts Columbus in a Class 1A substate game Friday night.
“Let’s go get Columbus on Friday,” Patterson said.
The Lions trailed English Valleys (11-10) after each of the first three quarters, but rallied for the win on a strong final quarter. Lone Tree pulled ahead by five points, then held off English Valleys in the final two minutes with defensive stops and free throws.
Adam Knock, Shield and Tyler Bell each scored 9 points for Lone Tree.
