Lone Tree
Johnson County is considering a pilot program to expand housing in six smaller cities: Lone Tree, Hills, Oxford, Shueyville, Solon and Swisher.
During the most recent Lone Tree City Council meeting, representatives discussed the proposed program and how it could help the community.
The program would offer low- or no-interest and/or forgivable loans to just those six areas, with the goal of increasing housing options and attracting more residents.
The proposal stems from a non-metro housing assessment study completed last November. Following the study, a housing initiative was proposed for the county’s smaller cities.
The report identified a need for about 950 additional dwelling units in the area, along with a greater variety of housing options.
In September, Johnson County Board of Supervisors Chair Jon Green, a former Lone Tree mayor, expressed excitement about the proposed program. “This is going to be the opening of a conversation.” he continued, “Excited to get the ball rolling.”
The supervisors want to work with each community to explore ways to expand housing. The program is still under consideration and has not been approved.
