VFW Post 6414 hosted the Trek Fest 38 Model Show on Saturday morning, which was attended by over 100 people who viewed the entries and the display of models by Chris Ames.
Ames lives in the Midwest—Omaha—and became a fan of Trek Fest in 2005. He started collecting models for himself when he was younger and has grown a business from this love.
This is the second year he has attended, and he brought his own models this time, all 75 of them. He created the designs for each one and offers the kits for sale on his website to recreate with Legos. He has sold over 3,000 kits to people from 16 countries since he started his business.
He attended Lego conventions Brick Wall Chicago and Brick Days and will travel to the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas in August. We’re pretty sure we’ll be seeing him again next year.
Those who attended voted on their favorite and the model club judged the entries.
The winner of People’s Choice was Luke Grove with his entry of Nomad.
In the Sci-Fantasy category, Mark Gorton won first with Robot Knight Desecrator, Paul Harvath won second with his Nuclear Powered Space Station, and third was awarded to Scott Raisbeck for his Red 5 X-Wing Fighter.
In the Star Trek category, Josh Miller came away with first for Klingon Bird of Prey, Steve Smith garnered second with the USS Enterprise, and Luke Grove won third for Nomad.
Congratulations to all the winners.
