KALONA
Pleasantview in Kalona was recently recognized as a 2026 recipient of the Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award through the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) National Quality Award Program. Pleasantview Director of Nursing Vickie Bender accepted the award during the Iowa Health Care Association Convention.
The AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program recognizes long-term care organizations that meet progressively rigorous standards of quality. The program is based on the nationally recognized Baldrige Performance Excellence Framework and includes Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.
The Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award recognizes providers that have developed a foundation for continuous quality improvement. At this level, organizations examine their mission, organizational characteristics, key challenges and the factors that influence their ability to achieve continued performance improvement.
For Pleasantview, the recognition represents the collective work of employees throughout the organization and their continued commitment to providing quality care and meaningful experiences for residents.
“We are incredibly proud of Vickie and our entire Pleasantview team,” said Pleasantview CEO Paul Wasser. “This recognition reflects the dedication our staff brings to serving our residents every day. Quality isn't the work of one person or one department—it takes an entire team committed to learning, improving and caring well for the people who call Pleasantview home.”
Pleasantview was among a notable group of Iowa providers recognized nationally in 2026. Iowa Health Care Association members ultimately received 60 Bronze Awards, the most of any state in the nation, highlighting Iowa's strong presence in long-term care quality improvement.
Pleasantview Home is specifically listed by the Iowa Health Care Association among the 2026 Bronze National Quality Award recipients.
The Bronze recognition also represents the beginning of an ongoing quality journey. Bronze recipients may continue through the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program by pursuing the Silver – Achievement in Quality Award and, ultimately, the Gold – Excellence in Quality Award.
