The Highland Husky and Hillcrest Academy Raven track teams travelled to Lisbon on Thursday, where the Huskies set three meet records and the Ravens set one.
Husky girls finish third as a team
Highland claimed third place as a team in a loaded field at Lisbon which included several 2A teams and a Springville squad that returned key pieces from its top-20 team at state a year ago.
For the Huskies, Kinzie Reuss, Alexa Hahn and the 4x200m relay team of Reuss, Hahn, Hailey Brun and Siena Bell all set meet records, while Grace Bombei won both the 1500m and 3000m runs.
Reuss’ record was good for second place in the high jump on tiebreakers with defending state bronze medalist and top returning high jumper in 1A Rowan Jacobi, as both cleared 5’2”, setting a new personal record for Reuss in the process.
Hahn’s record in the long jump set a mark of 16’ 8.25”, while the relay team’s new record time was 1:50.84.
Other top five finishes for the Highland girls included Alexa Hahn at 3rd in the 100m, Chloey Sexton at 3rd in the shot put, Aubrey Hahn at 4th in the 800m, Maiya Singbeil at 5th in the 100m hurdles, and Ella Schlabaugh at 5th in the long jump.
The Husky boys continued to shine in the middle distances, as the distance medley relay claimed 4th while Brock Nebergall and Noah Hartzler took 3rd and 5th, respectively, in the 800m.
The Huskies will retake the track on Thursday at Winfield-Mt. Union.
Scott family continues dominance for Hillcrest
Hillcrest’s Rya Scott continued her senior-year dominance, with a meet record 200m time of 26.36 seconds and a second-place 100m time of 12.58 seconds, the latter of which was within a hundredth of a second of the record-breaking first-place finish by Bellevue’s Leah Lambe.
Gibson and Adia Scott also took top-five finishes at the meet, as Adia claimed 4th in the 100m and 5th in the 200m while Gibson finished 3rd in the 110m hurdles.
The Ravens will return to action on Thursday as they travel to Louisa-Muscatine.
