Washington County Recorder Jo Greiner gave her quarterly report to the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, Oct. 12 and noted that “love is in the air” with 55 marriage licenses issued between July and September.

“Our normal average for a year is 120,” she said, adding that among the effects wrought by COVID-19 was the closing of public venues, including those for wedding receptions.

There also “was a lot more than usual” of property transfer, especially in selling she said, reporting 293 deeds, 367 mortgages and 398 property releases recorded in the quarter.

In terms of revenue from all the fees, the office collected a total of $158,988.57 of which $22,486 came from the deeds, mortgages and releases.

By contrast, the auditor’s quarterly report “had nothing out of the ordinary,” reported Dan Widmer, with a total revenue of $1,785 in fees.

In other business, the board:

• appointed supervisor Marcus Fedler as its representative to the

Washington County Emergency Services Advisory Council, a non-voting position except in the event of a tie. The representative is also to provide an annual report of the council’s work; and

• provided a brief update on the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, specifically aimed at providing COVID-19 relief.  The board is still seeking input from county organizations and residents regarding possible uses for its $4.4 million allocation. To date, however, the federal government has not issued final rules for acceptable uses off the funds. The board agreed it would not proceed without the final ruling.
