Susan K. Denton, 77, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at her home.
Susan was born February 12, 1949, in Muscatine, Iowa, to Anthony and Eulalia (Duwa) Morgan. She graduated from Lone Tree High School in 1967.
On June 14, 1969, Susan married Dennis Denton. They later divorced but remained great friends, sharing a special relationship and a deep love for their family.
Throughout her life, Susan held several careers. She worked as a transcriptionist for University of Iowa Hospitals; as assistant vice president and administrative assistant to Paul Dunlap, president of Hawkeye Bancorporation; as a qualitative marketing research linguist for Questor Research and LinguiSearch, Inc.; and, most recently, as the Director of Connections and Mission for Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Susan will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by Dennis Denton of Des Moines; her son: John (Jenny) Denton of West Des Moines; her grandsons: Cyd, Liam, and Hayden Denton; her brother: Wayne (Susan) Morgan of Lone Tree; her sister: Julie (Dean) Miller of Kalona; her brother-in-law: Richard Gerot of Iowa City; and her sister-in-law: Joan Morgan of Lone Tree; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father: Anthony “Tony” Morgan; her mother: Eulalia (Duwa) Morgan; her sisters: Delores (Gene) Koenighain and Rosemary Gerot; and her brother: Gerald Morgan.
In a final act of generosity, Susan donated her corneas, offering the precious gift of sight to others.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2926 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa Visitation will be held that morning from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Autism Foundation.
Though deeply missed, Susan’s love and memory will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
