Highland had two wrestlers reach the finals of the Willard Howell Invitational at Wapello this last weekend, with both taking home second place.
Easton Schlabaugh dropped his first match of the season in the finals at 106 pounds. He started off the day with a quick pin to reach the semifinals. He then gutted out a 11-6 victory over Davenport West’s Ayden Nicklaus to reach the finals against Jaxon Bussa of Camanche.
Bussa was able to outlast Schlabaugh in the final and pin him with 23 seconds left in the match.
Senior Cael Yeggy scored two first-period pins on the way to the final. He scored his fastest pin of the season in 25 seconds with a win over Ashton Moore of English Valleys. in the final he faced off against Tyreese Johnson of Davenport West. Johnson was able to score a 10-2 major decision over Yeggy.
Three other Huskies made the trip to Wapello, with Yahir Jimenez, Brogan Carolan and Will Wilkerson losing their first two matches of the day to not place.
Three Huskies won their bracket at the junior varsity version of the tournament on Friday.
Logan Bonebrake, Justin Sosa and Bryce Thompson all won their brackets.
Carlos Valenzuela took second.
