WASHINGTON COUNTY, IOWA
REGULAR MEETING OF TUESDAY,
MAY 16, 2023

At 9:00 am Chair Bob Yoder called the meeting to order in regular session, Courthouse Chambers. Items on the agenda included: public hearing and acknowledgment of proposed animal confinement feeding operation–Prairie Pork, Inc (Kiwi Site) Sec. 23, Township 76N, Range 8W, Cedar Township; Proclamation designating May 21, 2023 through May 27, 2023 as Emergency Medical Services Week; Application for Class E Retail Alcohol License–Ainsworth Four Corners, LLC; Secondary Road Use Request Form–Richmond Shooters/Dennis Murray; Fireworks Permit application–Richmond Shooters/Dennis Murray. Supervisors Jack Seward, Jr., Stan Stoops, Marcus Fedler, and Richard Young were also present.
All motions were passed unanimously by those supervisors in attendance unless noted otherwise.
The Board voted to approve the agenda as published.
The Board voted to open a public hearing regarding an application for construction permit for a confinement feeding operation. The applicant is Prairie Pork, Inc. c/o Matt Gent, 1880 170th St., Wellman, located in Section 23 of Cedar Township. The new animal unit capacity will total 1,920. Deputy Auditor Sue Meeks confirmed notice of the hearing had been properly published and the Auditor’s Office had received no public comment. There were no comments from those assembled. The Board voted to close the public hearing.
The Board voted to acknowledge a confinement feeding operation owned and operated by Prairie Pork, Inc. c/o Matt Gent, 1880 170th St., Wellman, located in Section 23 of Cedar Township.
The Board voted to adopt a proclamation designating the week of May 21, 2023 through May 27, 2023, as Emergency Medical Services Week. Jamie Brame made a presentation on behalf of the proclamation and was joined by fellow Ambulance Services employee Elizabeth Duncan and Interim Director Katrina Altenhofen. All members of the Board thanked them for their services and well-deserved recognition.
The Board voted to approve, and authorize the Chair to sign, a Class E Retail Liquor License from Ainsworth Four Corners, LLC, located at 3112 Highway 92, Ainsworth. The license is for June 29, 2023 to June 28, 2024. Sheriff Jared Schneider expressed no objection to the application.
The Board voted to approve, and authorize the Chair to sign, a request for a Secondary Road Use Permit from Richmond Shooters/Dennis Murray for July 3, 2023, from noon to 11:00 pm, with a rain date of July 8, 2023. This request is for Amvets Rd. and Jefferson St. in Richmond and is in conjunction with a fireworks display scheduled for the same date(s). Sheriff Jared Schneider expressed no objection to the application.
The Board voted to approve, and authorize the Chair to sign, a request for a Fireworks Permit from Richmond Shooters/Dennis Murray for July 3, 2023, from noon to 11:00 pm, with a rain date of July 8, 2023. This event will be held at 402 Amvets Rd. in Richmond. Sheriff Jared Schneider expressed no objection to the application.
At 9:24 am the Board voted to adjourn.
