Wellman Garden Club enjoyed their annual Christmas luncheon in the Asbury UMC Fellowship Hall on Friday, Dec 16. After Pam Nelson offered a prayer, we enjoyed Janet Stutzman’s delicious holiday menu of beef and noodles, broccoli salad, strawberry tapioca, rolls, and berry and chocolate pies.
Following our meal, the November minutes were read and the treasurer’s report was given. There was no old or new business, except that President Powell mentioned a Gazette article about a Master Gardner all day winter gardening fair on Feb. 15 at Kirkwood Regional Center. She also passed around an interesting book entitled “Best Garden Plants for Iowa,” in case some of us wanted to ask Santa for it.
We sang several Christmas carols, and Pam entertained with a story by Norma Lewis called, “Dear Santa, I know it looks BAD, but it wasn’t my fault!” Marilyn Powell then offered a poem called “Recipe for Christmas all Year Long.”
Members brought donations for Wellman’s food pantry, and also signed Christmas cards to be sent to past and present Garden Club members.
Wellman Garden Club takes a winter break (no January meeting) then reconvenes on Feb. 16 at the Senior Center.
We will have lunch together at noon, then hear from Rosemary Pacha about her Whitehouse Tea Party collection.
