The cities of Wellman and Kalona are helping their residents with their spring cleanup by holding city-wide clean up days.

The Wellman city-wide cleanup will be from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 14, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 15. Kalona’s city-wide cleanup day is 8-11 a.m. Saturday, May 22.

Wellman

Wellman will be offering drop off and curbside disposal. Drop off disposal is at the Wellman City Maintenance building, 205 9th Avenue. Those doing drop off will need to provide their name and address prior to unloading in the city dumpsters.

Curbside pickup will cost $15 and will be available only Friday afternoon. Those taking advantage of curbside must provide their name, address, and prepay.

Wellman will accept items too large for the regular Cox Sanitation trash bags such as furniture, bicycles, lawn mowers, small amounts of wood and small scrap metal items. Items that won’t be accepted are building or remodeling waste, oil, paint, tires, toxic waste, bags of garbage and electronic waste. Television, electronics, and computers can be disposed of by purchasing a sticker at city hall and placed on the curb for regular pickup.

Kalona

Kalona residents will need to take their items to the west parking lot of City Park. Items that will be accepted include glass, plastics, scrap metal, small camping grills, mattresses/box springs, furniture, appliances, lawnmowers and grills.

Items that Kalona (Johnson County Refuge) will not accept include yard waste, cardboard, computers, televisions, tires, oil, roofing material, railroad ties, building material, hazard materials and batteries.
