Callahan places first for Mid-Prairie at Warrior Invitational

Despite being initially postponed, the weather finally became tame enough for the annual WACO Warrior Invitational to come to fruition on Feb. 3.

This tournament, taking place in Wayland, had ten schools take part, including Mid-Prairie.

There was a tie for the team championship with both Mediapolis and North Mahaska each scoring 174 team points to tie for first place. Coming in third was Mt. Pleasant with 157 points. 

Mid-Prairie results 

The Golden Hawks had 16 wrestlers compete in the Warrior Invitational, placing fourth in the team standings, with junior Quinn Callahan giving Mid-Prairie its top finish of the tourney.

Wrestling in and winning three matches, Callahan placed first in the 215 lbs bracket, improving his overall season record to 21-17.  

He won all of his matches by different methods. His first victory came by fall in 1:22, his second win came by virtue of a 11-0 major decision, and his last win came by virtue of a 4-2 decision over Will Hoopes of Louisa-Muscatine. 

Other top finishes came from Burke Berry, Jarron Thomas, and Josh Turner all finishing as the runner-up in their respective weight brackets.  

Berry (285 lbs.) went 2-1 to reach second place, winning his two matches by fall with his quickest pin coming in 11 seconds. 

Thomas (175 lbs.) won his first two matches to reach the first-place match with his two wins coming by major decision, 10-2, and by fall in 3:53. 

Turner (165 lbs.) also went 2-1 with his two victories being by fall in 20 seconds and by fall in 3:40. 

Another notable finish came from Trevyn Riley, who ended up in third place in the 106 lbs bracket. Riley won his quarterfinal match by fall in 1:49 before being defeated in the semifinal by fall in 2:37. In the third-place match Riley won by decision, 14-7.
