WELLMAN

In their second meeting of the year, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks lost 72-61 to the Wilton Beavers.

This game mirrors their previous outing, a 71-60 Wilton win. Of course, both of these teams met in the playoffs last year with Wilton coming out on top, 83-61.

This game was jumping from the first second of action. Wilton won the tip-ball and scored three immediately. Mid-Prairie’s Dylan Henry answered with a three on the Hawk’s first possession as well.

After one quarter, the Hawks were only down by three. Wilton picked up the pace in the second, however, pulling ahead to a 46-25 lead at halftime.

The Hawks answered big in the third. They came out swinging, going on a 16-3 run, pulling to 49-41, within eight. The gymnasium was rocking, and the Hawks felt an energy surge.

Sophomore Bryce Henry hit a two-point buzzer beater which highlighted a 56-45 game after three quarters.

Unfortunately for the Hawks, they could not keep up with Wilton who woke from their third quarter slumber, matching the Hawks blow-for-blow in the fourth quarter to quell the Wellman energy surge.

The Hawks fell to 6-7 and will play Washington on the road on Jan. 29 as their next task.
