Mid-Prairie sends 50 archers to state

The Iowa State Fairgrounds were buzzing with arrows this past weekend as Iowa’s best young sharpshooters took aim at the annual State Archery Tournament in Des Moines. 

Archers who placed in the top 10 within their division as individuals earned a guaranteed spot to compete at one of the national tournaments. 

State is also a place where scholarships are awarded and Mid-Prairie’s Blake Peck was presented with a $1,000 Haney Family Foundation Senior Scholarship. This scholarship was essay based and only three of them are given out at State. 

Over 2,000 students from more than 140 schools tested their skill with the bow at this event and Mid-Prairie, in total from their MS and HS teams, had 50 Golden Hawks at the state tourney. 

On the HS team the Golden Hawks ranked 20 out of 28 in the Bullseye contest with an overall score of 3256. The top three scorers for Mid-Prairie were Landon Kuenster, Averi Janecek,  and Sophia Puttmann.

Kuenster hit 13 tens to finish with a team high 283 points, Janecek hit 17 tens to finish with a score of 281, and Puttmann had the third highest score with 277. 

In the 3D contest the HS teams ranked 17 out of 24 with a final score of 1640. They were led by Elijah Statler, Milo Sieren, and Kuenster.

Statler connected on 16 tens to score a team high 282 points, Sieren connected on 13 tens to end up with 277 points, and Kuenster was the third highest scorer with 273 points.

On the MS team the Hawks ranked 16 out of 23 in the 3D contest with a final score of 1578. They were led by Lael Seale, Nickolas Kelley, and Joshua Seale. 

Lael hit 13 tens to score a team high 278 points, Kelley connected on 11 tens to finish with 273 points, and Joshua also hit 13 tens to be the team's third highest scorer with 267 points. 

In the Bullseye contest the MS team scored 3116 to rank 25 out of 28. They were led by Lael, Noah Coblentz, and Landon Allen. 

Lael connected on nine tens to score a team high 277 points, Coblentz scored 13 tens to finish with 275 points, and Allen scored 268 to be the team’s third highest scorer.
