Highland lost to HLV-TC in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-12) sweep that ended the Huskies’ season on Monday night.
“I appreciated how the whole team competed and worked together,” head coach April Stumpf said. “Volleyball is not an “I” sport and it takes everybody contributing in those different ways to be successful. Everyone put their heart and soul on the court and I appreciated that.”
Junior duo Kamryn Fink and Ava Sexton led the Huskies on both sides of the ball, as Fink racked up a team-high 9 kills to go with 11 digs while Sexton collected team highs with 2 aces and 13 digs alongside her 7 kills.
“It’ll be great to have them back there,” Stumpf said of having Fink and Sexton back next year. “They obviously have great volleyball skills. They’re both strong volleyball players and they’re leaders. I know having them on the court to help guide and lead the team will help us get better.”
In addition to her contributions at the net and on defense, Sexton took shifts at setter after switching positions late in the season.
“The nice thing about Ava is that you can throw any position at her, she’s a great utility player,” Stumpf said. “She’s small but mighty, she’s not afraid to go after a challenge.”
With the loss, the Huskies ended their season with a 10-20 record.
